Falling For Rosés and a Special Red – 91 Pt 2006 Altos Las Hormigas Vista Flores for $65
Fall is upon us, bringing a changing season that just begs for the perfect glass of wine to enjoy in the evenings or at your favorite tailgate!
Our top picks for the weeks ahead include two outstanding Rosés. The Tullia Brut Rosé is one of the prides of Italy. An outstanding value from estate-grown fruit, this family winery product is a sparkling white from Prosecco varietals.
The 2011 Fritz’s Rosé from Fritz Hasselbach is a blend of pinot meunier and Portuguese grapes grown to perfection in Germany’s Nackenheim/Rhein region. Fermented in steel tanks, the vibrant, acidic, fruit-forward Rosé is refreshingly sweet.
Not to be outdone by the Rosés, the 2011 Groth Sauvignon Blanc is a consistently well rated Napa Valley white. With its melony, citrusy flavors and aroma, this vintage offers a solid body and a lively creaminess that’s not to be missed.
Similarly, the 2010 Pinot Grigio Collio from Livio Felluga also boasts a lovely citrus note and excellent balance, yet this straw yellow-tinted bottle boasts a complex nose of jasmine and magnolia blossoms with a tense, vibrant palate.
Last, but certainly not least, fire up the grill before the big game and enjoy a bottle of the 91 point (Wine Spectator) 2006 Altos Las Hormigas Vista Flores Single Vineyard Malbec. Uniquely mineral in character, this Malbec is aged for 36 months using French tight grain oak barrels for a remarkably lush mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a dark, black fruit flavor that holds true in a long, balanced finish.
