The new small batch offering from Usquaebach ("water of life") is comprised exclusively of 15 different single malts all aged for a minimum of 15 years. The four core malts come from Macallan, Ancnoc, Ardmore, and Blair Athol. Not surprisingly, the blend is a lesson in a malty, sherried, oxidative, savory, and nutty single malt. Tasting notes include cocoa nibs, buckwheat, caramel, mandarin orange, poppy seeds, espresso, spicy oak, and more. This dram does what all great blends should do: offers up a drinking experience that is completely unique and greater than the sum of its parts. Well done. Don't be intimidated by the challenging name; this is rich, decadent, crowd-pleasing whisky. |
